Emergency Physicians Welcome New FDA Commissioner Dr. Stephen Hahn

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) congratulates Stephen Hahn, MD, FASTRO, on his confirmation to lead the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The nation’s emergency physicians look forward to working with Dr. Hahn as we continue our joint efforts to strengthen prescription drug safety and enhance pain management by encouraging appropriate prescribing practices and promoting alternatives to opioids when available. ACEP is also eager to partner with the agency as it implements the recommendations of the Drug Shortages Task Force to prevent and mitigate shortages of critical medications that emergency physicians and patients rely on every day.

On behalf of its physician members and the 150 million people who visit emergency departments each year, ACEP looks forward to continuing our work with the FDA to help carry out its mission to protect and promote public health.

The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) is the national medical society representing emergency medicine. Through continuing education, research, public education, and advocacy, ACEP advances emergency care on behalf of its 40,000 emergency physician members, and the more than 150 million people they treat on an annual basis.
