How medical experts describe COVID fatigue on the front lines

Confiding in trusted co-workers, they described epiphanies of sorrow triggered by the pandemic rituals of donning personal protective gear countless times or removing work clothes in their garage each night for fear of bringing the virus home to loved ones.

Many of the stories reached health care leaders like Dr. Keith Grams, chair of emergency medicine at Rochester Regional Health and president of the American College of Emergency Physicians New York chapter, and Dr. Bonnie Litvack, a Westchester County radiologist and president of the Medical Society of the State of New York.

Both of them discussed the growing crisis in interviews with USA TODAY Network New York and the drain on their staffs.
